American Apparel, the iconic North American fashion brand that rose to fame because of its ‘Made in Los Angeles’ clothing and infamously fell into bankruptcy in 2015 has now announced to set up its brick-and-mortar shop in the US, again.
The brand, now owned by Canadian garment manufacturing firm Gildan Activewear, will open its doors in the fourth quarter at a defunct American Apparel location on Melrose Avenue.
The upcoming retail store will complement the e-commerce operations of the label and serve as an incubator to gauge trends.
The clothing brand is already back in business in the US where it re-launched an updated e-commerce website that looks almost identical to the old one in August last year.
It also announced its re-entry by launching an online store on April 23, 2018, in the UK. Notably, it had shut down its retail operations in the UK and the US in November 2016.
“The forthcoming American Apparel store will be like a test model store for us. Further decision on expansion will be considered later,” Gildan Chief Executive Glenn Chamandy was quoted as saying in report.
The retailer shuttered its brick and mortar stores after last year’s bankruptcy. At least 280 stores and five factories were operational by American Apparel in its heyday.
Consumer’s inclination towards online shopping forced many retail stores to declare bankruptcy.
