Community Clothing, the business founded by designer and ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ judge, Patrick Grant, has launched an Organic Athletic sportswear line that is 100 per cent plastic-free and biodegradable.
The new 13-piece collection is manufactured entirely from plant-based textile technologies. Vests, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and three types of shorts are offered in sizes XS to 4XL for men and sizes 6-20 for women.
According to the firm, the bulk of current sportswear is manufactured from non-biodegradable oil-based synthetic plastic materials, and Community Clothing’s new range of high-performance and long-lasting athletic gear “represents radically different thinking in the world of sportswear”.
Patrick Grant stated, “Community Clothing Organic Athletic symbolises the most significant shift in sportswear in two generations. Shifting away from oil-based sportswear and toward 100 per cent natural and biodegradable clothing allows you to exercise without harming the environment.” Since its inception in 2016, Community Clothing has exclusively used natural fibre-based primary textiles in its garments.
The decision to remove all plastic from this new sportswear line follows a five-year innovation program with the brand’s UK textile manufacturing partners, which included the development of lightweight, fast-drying, and breathable cotton fabrics, as well as an innovative woven natural rubber and cotton elastic.
