Alibaba Group, the renowned luxury e-tailer from China, has pledged to go carbon neutral by the year 2030.
The e-tailer has said that it plans to do so in its operations and slash emissions across its supply chains and transportation networks.
The Chinese online bigwig also added that it is committed to attain carbon neutrality in its own direct emissions (scope 1) as well as in its indirect emissions (scope 2) derived from electricity consumption or heating – and all this by 2030.
Besides, Alibaba is also committed to cut overall CO2 across all its businesses by 1.5 gigatonnes by 2035.
To ensure all its sustainable goals are met, the e-tailer, reportedly, plans to deploy new energy-saving, high-efficiency technologies and make further use of renewables.
That’s not all! Alibaba is also set to explore carbon-removal initiatives that could extract climate-warming greenhouse gas from the atmosphere.
As per media reports, Alibaba also sought to mobilise actions and behavioural changes amongst consumers, merchants and partners in China and across the globe.
