Taking a u-turn, online fashion retailer Boohoo has now said it will continue using wool in its products.
The retailer has earlier promised to enforce a ban on all items containing wool, by the autumn.
However, it changed its mind, hours after making the announcement.
Reversing the ban, Boohoo issued a statement that said, “Boohoo continues to assess all options as part of its ongoing commitment to a more sustainable future. We are committed to ensuring the wool used in our supply chain comes from good husbandry and meets high levels of animal welfare, and will continue to use wool as a sustainable material.”
While the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) praised Boohoo’s initial plans to scrap wool items, it invited backlash too, with one sheep farmer reportedly saying that he was “absolutely disgusted” by the ban.
Manchester-based Boohoo, which owns brands like BoohooMan, Pretty Little Things and Nasty Gal, came under scanner earlier this year when one of its ‘faux fur’ jumpers was found with real animal hair.
