Vipin Kapooria has resigned as chief financial officer of Blinkit, less than a year after joining the quick commerce firm, according to people familiar with the matter.
Kapooria joined Gurugram-based Blinkit in September 2022 from e-commerce marketplace Flipkart, where he served as Vice President of Finance. Sources said he is set to return to the Bengaluru-headquartered Flipkart in a senior finance role, marking his third stint at the company. He first joined Flipkart in 2015, moved to hospitality start-up Oyo in 2018, and returned to Flipkart in 2020.
For Eternal-owned Blinkit, Kapooria was the first full-time CFO in nearly two years. The role had remained vacant since 2022, when then finance chief Amit Sachdeva exited following Blinkit’s acquisition by Zomato, now rebranded as Eternal. Kapooria joined Blinkit ahead of Eternal’s Rs 8,500 crore (US $ 946 million) qualified institutional placement last year and worked closely with Blinkit chief executive Albinder Dhindsa and Eternal CFO Akshant Goyal.
The development comes as competition intensifies in India’s quick commerce sector, where Blinkit is vying for market share against Zepto, Swiggy’s Instamart, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now. Flipkart itself entered the 10-minute delivery segment in mid-2024 and is preparing for a public listing next year, while also completing the process of shifting its domicile from Singapore to India.
The quick commerce space has seen significant fundraising activity over the past year. Swiggy raised Rs. 14,500 crore (US $ 1.61 billion) through an initial public offering in November 2024 followed by a qualified institutional placement earlier this month, while Nexus Venture Partners-backed Zepto has made a confidential filing to raise Rs. 11,000 crore (US $ 1.22 billion) through an IPO next year.
