
Bharat Tex 2024, a worldwide textile exhibition to be hosted here from 26th-29th February, is projected to attract over 3,500 exhibitors and over 3,000 international customers.
Rachna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, stated that the exhibition will bring together stakeholders from all stages of the textiles value chain, involving government and industry leaders. The major event would provide India with a rare opportunity to promote its status as an international procurement and investment destination.
Shah elaborated that a “Centre of Sustainable Fashion Technology” will be formed to foster capacity building and sustainability research.
Shah stated that, “This is a comprehensive research of market sizing in India. The results and suggestions have been finalised, and we expect to be able to make an official launch soon so that the Indian industry can begin working on sizing to make clothing items more suitable for the Indian population.”
Shah explained, “Beginning this year, an integrated master’s curriculum in luxury textile and fashion restoration will be offered. The course will last five years and will include both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. NIFT presently provides four-year Bachelor’s degree programs and a two-year Master’s degree. ”
She added that the process of constructing a dedicated vehicle for this purpose between the Centre and the nations in which the parks will be constructed is now ongoing.
It has been projected that over a period of five years, the PLI scheme for textiles will result in fresh investment of more than Rs. 19,000 crore, cumulative turnover of over Rs. 3 lakh crore, and will create extra opportunities for employment of more than 7.5 lakh jobs in this sector, as well as several lakhs more for supporting activities “The textiles industry primarily employs women; thus, the scheme will empower women and increase their participation in the formal economy,” the Textiles Ministry stated earlier.
