
The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Foundation in Bangladesh has sought Taka 200 crore to form a credit fund only for women entrepreneurs of the country even as it requested funding from the Government incentive packages to offset the losses suffered by the women entrepreneurs and expand their businesses subsequent to the losses suffered by them on account of the pandemic.
According to media reports, Managing Director of the SME Foundation, Md. Mafizur Rahman, recently sent a letter in this regard to the Industry Ministry, in which he, reportedly, underlined the SME Foundation has successfully completed the allocation of Taka 300 crore from the incentive package 5 months ahead of the schedule even as he sought fund for the women entrepreneurs.
“….there are opportunities to disburse more loans amongst the pandemic-hit women entrepreneurs through SME Foundation in the current financial year,” reportedly, maintained the MD of the SME Foundation while adding to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need to set up a separate fund for the underprivileged women entrepreneurs.
