Avenue Supermarts Ltd, which operates the DMart supermarket chain, has announced a planned leadership transition under which Anshul Asawa will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer from 1st February 2026, and is set to take over as Managing Director from 1st April 2026, for a three-year term, subject to shareholder approval.
The transition comes as the value-led retailer continues to expand its footprint. DMart added 10 stores during the third quarter of FY ’26, taking its total store count to 442 as of 31st December 2025. Avenue Supermarts was valued at approximately Rs. 2.48 lakh crore (US $ 27.47 billion) in early January 2026, reflecting sustained investor confidence in the company’s everyday low price strategy.
Asawa brings nearly three decades of experience with Unilever, where he held senior leadership roles across sales, distribution, marketing and digital commerce in multiple markets. His previous positions include Country Head of Unilever Thailand and General Manager, Home Care for Greater Asia, in addition to global responsibilities in digital commerce and customer leadership. He will succeed Ignatius Navil Noronha, whose tenure as Managing Director concludes on 31st January 2026.
