Following a disastrous IT update that left thousands of customers without their money before the start of the new school year, Asda has issued an apology.
According to The Telegraph, some buyers said that orders had been placed but that money had been removed from their accounts, and others claimed that they were unable to return anything they had bought online.
A spokesperson for Asda, however, stated that all orders have now been filled and that there are no problems at the moment. The store is having its best back-to-school season yet. As part of an £800 million IT project to decouple the grocery chain’s systems from those of its former owner, Walmart, Asda modernised George’s online system earlier this month.
Asda said it was working to resolve the IT problems at George as quickly as possible.
The spokesman said, “Earlier this month, as part of this process we migrated 9.6 million historic George orders onto our new George.com platform. The overwhelming majority of these were completed successfully and the platform is trading well. However, we are aware of a number of issues with some historic customer orders. We sincerely apologise for this and any inconvenience caused and are working hard to resolve them as quickly as possible.”
