Amazon, the world-renowned e-commerce pioneer, has yet again proved to be the undisputed leader of the US e-commerce.
Statista’s ecommerceDB, in one of its latest reports, has distinctly listed the top 10 online retail giants, who won the hearts of American consumers in 2019.
Like 2018, 2019 too saw Amazon emerging as the largest online shopping destination in the US, with extraordinary net sales of US $ 73.75 billion.
What makes the numbers all the more exemplary is that none of the other e-commerce greats in the top 10 could come anywhere close to Amazon.
Walmart, despite a jump from 5th spot in 2018 (US $ 14.6 billion) to 2nd spot in 2019, was at a distant second with US $ 19.61 billion.
The massive difference between the top 2 is enough indication why Amazon has been such a dominant force over the last few years in online shopping.
While Target and Macy’s made their way to the esteemed list of top 10 online retailers in the US, Apple retained its third spot with estimated sales of US $ 11.36 billion.
Target managed to grab the 6th spot by selling US $ 6.61 billion worth merchandise online, while Macy’s was at the 8th spot with US $ 5.47 billion.
While there’s been a shuffling in rankings every year, the way Amazon has been generating numbers, there doesn’t seem to be anyone at the moment that can dethrone the e-commerce giant.
Amazon, together with Google, Apple and Facebook, is one of the Big 4 technology companies in the world and is reportedly the second largest private employer in the US.
