Amazon is all set to diversify its cashierless technology Amazon Go service!
The online giant will make the service available at other retail formats like airports and movie theatres.
Amazon has been focusing on expanding its retail presence in order to decrease its reliance on online shopping. The company also has plans of investing in India so that it is able to gain from the already established brands, enabling faster pace and a lower cost than building its own stores.
Amazon already has 16 Amazon Go stores where customers scan their phones, pick products they like off shelves and then walk out and receive a receipt for whatever they took with them.
The e-tailer sees the application of the same underlying technology to speed up transaction processes for other companies. It is in talks with OTG’s CIBO Express stores at airports and Cineworld’s Regal theatres to consider installation of the technology.
The company wants the technology to be in place by the first quarter of 2020 for the convenience of customers and it plans to expand to hundreds of retail stores by the end of next year.
Amazon has considered asking for a percentage of sales from the goods people purchase through the Go-equipped stores, or charging retailers up-front and then taking a monthly fee.
It’s not clear if the Amazon brand name will be visible on the Go hardware or which app customers would use to sign in.
