Amazon India wants to boost its total exports from the nation to US $ 80 billion by 2030, up from its initial goal of US $ 20 million by 2025. The e-commerce giant announced bold new plans to reaffirm its dedication to India’s economic development at the fifth annual Smbhav Summit, including a significant expansion of its export goals.
Through its Global Selling Program, which makes it easier to export Made-in-India goods in a variety of categories, including apparel and textiles, the company hopes to empower Indian MSMEs, manufacturers, and direct-to-consumer entrepreneurs in order to achieve these goals.
To further strengthen India’s manufacturing environment, Amazon has recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). India would be positioned as a global manufacturing hub thanks to this partnership. Furthermore, Amazon invested US $ 120 million from its Smbhav Venture Fund in firms that aimed to scale and digitise industrial processes, creating thousands of new jobs in the process.
Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President, Emerging Markets, highlights the importance of India for Amazon, stating that the online retailer is dedicated to supporting small companies, increasing exports, and generating employment. These programs are in line with the Prime Minister’s objective of creating a US $ 5 trillion economy and the Government’s vision of a Viksit Bharat.
Amazon also launched Amazon Freight and Amazon Shipping, which are logistics services that provide affordable options for middle-mile and last-mile delivery, as part of its growth. These services, which cover more than 14,000 pin codes, are intended to assist businesses throughout India.
Additionally, by 2025, Amazon had promised to digitise 10 million MSMEs, generate 2 million jobs, and facilitate US $ 20 billion in exports. With almost 12 million MSMEs digitalised and US $ 13 billion in total exports, the company has already surpassed several goals.
