A new English-language website to get more business!
Alibaba, the Chinese e-commerce major, is exactly doing that for its Tmall Global marketplace so as to double the number of international brands on the platform to 40,000 in next three years.
On Wednesday (26 July), the online commerce giant began operations of the English-language portal for the first time. The objective was to bring on board more merchants from around the globe to sell to Chinese consumers.
More on the same, Yi Qian, Deputy General Manager, Tmall Global, said “The website will widen our reach to merchants, especially to those medium and small sized businesses around the world. We will help them with our logistics and marketing services.”
Initially, interested brands were able to get in touch with Alibaba mainly through trade shows, personal introductions or through its Chinese-language website, the company said.
The online firm is seeking new growth engines to offset a cooling economy in China as the trade war rages on, while fending off increasingly aggressive competitors including JD.com Inc. and Pinduoduo Inc.
Notably, Alibaba began making inroads into Southeast Asia through the acquisition of Lazada, but now it aims to broaden its reach even further.
Tmall helps merchants sell goods to 600 million-plus buyers, but it’s one of the single largest online retailers in China’s US $ 1 trillion e-commerce arena.
