Adidas has announced plans to close its running app offices in Austria by mid-2025, consolidating its digital functions across fewer locations. This decision will affect around 170 employees working in the Runtastic offices located in Pasching, Vienna, and Salzburg. Impacted employees will have the opportunity to apply for new roles in Herzogenaurach, Amsterdam, or Zaragoza.
Adidas acquired Runtastic, an Austrian fitness apps company, in 2015 for 220 million euros. Since then, Runtastic has been integrated into Adidas’ broader digital strategy. However, the company has recently streamlined its digital products, removing some Runtastic apps from app stores to focus on core apps like Adidas Running and Adidas Training.
Adidas stated that consolidating its digital operations will allow it to provide better digital experiences for consumers. While the move impacts Runtastic’s Austrian workforce, Adidas continues to expand in Austria through wholesale sales, owned stores, and sports partnerships.
The company also reported a positive financial outlook, with second-quarter revenue rising by 11 per cent to € 5.82 billion, contributing to a first-half total of € 11.28 billion, a 10 per cent increase year on year.
