Apparel exporting units in Tirupur, India’s leading hub of knitted garments, are now allowed to operate with 100 per cent workers.
The State Government has allowed the factories to work as they used to during the pre- Covid days – much to the delight of industry stakeholders.
The factories have been asked to ensure that workers follow Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.
It is imperative to mention here that factories will operate with full capacity after the gap of one and half months.
Apparel facilities, which had voluntarily shut operations before the enforcement of total lockdown owing to the exponential rise in Covid cases, were allowed to function with 25 per cent workforce from 7 June and then with 50 per cent work force from 21 June.
However, there was a ban on full resumption of operations, as Tirupur continued to report high number of cases.
To get the approval for working with maximum workforce, various trade bodies of Tirupur subsequently requested the State Government to relax the norms and resume full-fledged production.
