The Telangana Government has withdrawn its plan to establish a pharmaceutical village in Vikarabad district’s Dudyal Mandal by purchasing land from three villages, including Lagacherla. The Government will publish a new announcement regarding the construction of an industrial corridor for textile manufacturing in lieu of the pharmaceutical village.
A notice to acquire 1,358 acres of allotted and patta land in the villages of Hakeempet, Polepally, and Lagacherla was sent out by the State Government on 1st August. Sixty-two acres in Lagacherla village and seventy-one acres in Polepally were to be taken over.
A few days ago, following violent protests in Lagacherla when Vikarabad collector Prateek Jain and other revenue officials were attacked in their car, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed the construction of an industrial corridor (multipurpose industrial park) in place of the pharma village.
The Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) has now proposed to retract the previous notification in response to the government’s decision to alter the land acquisition’s goal.
Official sources stated that because the villagers had stated that they would willingly donate their land for non-polluting and non-pharma enterprises, the land utilisation had shifted from pharmaceutical to industrial and textile industries.
In a few days, the State Government will decide whether to proceed with the land acquisition in Lagacherla according to the previous plan, to exclude it, or to acquire only a portion of the area.
