South Korea has launched a new strategy to address important trends such as the rapid growth of the industrial textile market, increased demand for environmentally friendly practices, and the integration of digital transformation into product planning, manufacturing, and logistics.
According to Trade, Industry, and Energy Minister Dukgeun Ahn, the Textile and Fashion Industry Competitiveness Strategy intends to boost Korea’s worldwide market share in industrial and eco-friendly textiles from 2-3 per cent to 10 per cent by 2030, while also increasing digital transformation levels from 35 per cent to 60 per cent.
Developing cutting-edge innovations in carbon fibres, electronic textiles, and high-performance aramids by 2030 is one of the strategy’s main goals. Businesses that incorporate industrial textiles into their goods will be assisted by a KRW 2.9 trillion fund. A Tech Textile Product Certification Evaluation Support Centre and an Industrial Textile Alliance will also be established by the plan.
The policy prioritises eco-friendly methods over technological developments, allocating KRW 31 billion for plant-based vegan leather, biodegradable fibres, and fibre-to-fibre recycling. The Government also intends to establish eco-design principles and carbon emissions regulations, as well as give waste heat recovery facilities to more than 200 SMEs.
