French textile reconditioning start-up Reekom has secured US $ 4.9 million to create a new mechanised industrial center in La Courneuve, Seine-Saint-Denis. The new location will be 3,500 square meters, and will enhance Reekom’s operations by tripling its monthly processing capacity to 100,000 items by 2028.
The funding round took place due to some of the prominent business angels participating in it such as Alexandre Cadain (Alpha Star), Clément Alteresco and Benjamin Bouquet (Morning) as well as investment groups Super Capital and Kimpa.
Reekom was created in 2022 by Guillaume Perret du Cray, and focuses on reconditioning and remarketing clothing, footwear, leather goods, and home decor for third-party brands. The company is currently processing 30,000 items each month and performs quality control, cleaning, ironing, minor repairs, and product photography. Some good brands that are customers of Reekom include BonneGueule, Paradigme, Camif, and Veepee.
“Our objective is to demonstrate that re-commerce can be both sustainable and profitable,” remarked Perret du Cray. “We’re excited to be working with a framework that applies circular economy principles, is industrial scale, and has local impact—especially with social reintegration associations.”
In terms of its future trajectory, Reekom will expand across Europe, with further recycling hubs planned for Spain, Italy, Germany, and Eastern Europe. There are also plans for a broader global scale in the US and Asia.
In order to bolster the company’s scaling plans, Reekom will hire 11 new employees by the end of 2021, including textile engineers, dressmakers, and operational staff; bringing the company team to 30.
