The home furnishing and recycling industry of Panipat is upbeat after a day-long visit from Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh. The Minister listened to the industry’s requirements and assured of further support.
He also visited various factories like Mahajan Overseas, H R Overseas, Excellent Fabtex, Shree Jee International, ASM Home furnishing and held discussions with the management.
Pardeep Kakkar, Vice President, Northern India Rotor Spinners Association (NIRSA) and Founder, Kakkar Spinning Mills informed Apparel Resources, saying, “The minister not only appreciated the cluster’s sustainable initiatives but also assured of support to the hub. We shared our various demands with him and he was positive on the same.”
Members of the Global Alliance For Textiles Sustainability Council (GATS) insisted on a separate HS code for recycled materials so this segment can get more recognition at the national and international levels.
“It was a great experience for us as the Minister discussed various aspects and explored the factory, manufacturing process, market segments, etc. His thrust was on new product innovations in textile products. He also shared about working on new fibres and having products created out of those,” shared Pranab Mahajan, Mahajan Overseas.

Giriraj Singh also had a meeting with more than a hundred industry representatives from Panipat, especially from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). In a meeting organised by the Handloom Export Promotion Council (HEPC), he motivated the industry to develop new products with different blends, such as jute with bamboo and recycled cotton with synthetic fibres, on floor-covering and carpet products.
Dr. M Beena; and Chairperson, HEPC and President of the Panipat Exporters Association Lalit Kumar Goel Ashok Gupta of Devgiri Exports, Vinod Dhamija of Hariyana Chamber of Commerce and Kuldeep Wattal, Chairperson, Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) were also present in the meeting.
