Page Industries, which is the exclusive licensee for Jockey International Inc. and Speedo International Ltd. in India, inaugurated a Rs. 750 crore (US $81.33 million) apparel unit in Ramdaspur, located in Odisha’s Cuttack district. The 650,000 sq.ft. manufacturing facility includes a raw material warehouse, a men’s innerwear manufacturing unit, and dedicated facilities for socks and elastics.
On the same day, Page Industries laid the foundation stone for a second unit at Bhuinpur in Khurda district, with an investment of around Rs. 250 crore (US $27.11 million). Similarly, MAS India Clothing Pvt. Ltd, part of the Sri Lanka-based MAS Holdings which is one of South Asia’s largest manufacturers of intimate wear, sportswear, and swimwear, also laid the foundation stone for its facility in the region.
The unit was inaugurated by CM Mohan Charan Majhi, who said that the state government’s focused push on the textile and apparel sector would transform Odisha into the “Surat-Tirupur of eastern India”. He added that large-scale industrialisation would soon trigger reverse migration, with youth returning to the state for jobs instead of leaving in search of opportunities.
Industry Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the focus remains on generating maximum employment through industries, which will also nurture MSMEs and strengthen the local supply chain.
