
Chinese shoemaker Dunion Taiyang Sheng Shoes (BD) Co Ltd is set to invest US $ 10.20 million in establishing a footwear manufacturing facility at the Bepza Economic Zone (Bepza EZ) in Chattogram.
The new factory aims to produce around 2.1 million pairs of footwear annually including sandals, flats, high heels, pumps, booties, boots, and sports shoes, creating nearly 1,940 jobs, according to a Bepza press release.
An agreement has been signed at the Bepza Complex in Dhaka between Md. Ashraful Kabir, member of Bepza’s investment promotion, and Ye Yary, chairman of Dunion Taiyang Sheng Shoes (BD).
Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, executive chairman of Bepza, who was present at the signing, welcomed the investment and assured the company of Bepza’s continued support in providing a secure and business-friendly environment.
He urged the investor to ensure efficient use of land through factory designs that allow future vertical expansion. Rahman also highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly measures such as rooftop solar panels and rainwater harvesting within the project.
