A Lok Sabha MP from the Buxar region in Bihar named Sudhakar Singh has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has requested in the letter for the PM to allocate a Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM-MITRA) park to the state. According to the MP, parks will be established in seven states—with the exception of Bihar—under the PM-MITRA initiative, which was recently announced by the Central Government.
He added by saying that the Bihar Government had allocated 1,719 acres of land for this scheme and that, even as an industrially backward state, Bihar had plenty of potential for the textile sector. He also said that the preliminary project report for the same had been turned in to the Ministry of Textiles by the stated deadline of 15th March 2022.
He said that unlike the states of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Karnataka, which already have established textile sectors, Bihar lacks such a textile cluster. He claimed that workers leave Bihar because of a lack of possibilities. He went on to say that if such a project were established in Bihar, it would not only create jobs locally but also stop mass migration.
