The interim Government’s adviser on power, energy, and mineral resources, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, has stated that competition will be the only way to stimulate private sector involvement in the energy industry.
“There are a lot of bad names in the energy sector, and businessmen should move forward to overcome such scandals,” the adviser said during a meeting with representatives of the Bangladesh Solar & Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) at the Ministry.
Leaders of BSREA made a number of requests at the conference to clear various obstacles to investment in the industry. The adviser replied by telling the ministry to set up a committee to deal with these problems.
The adviser emphasised the necessity of broadening the renewable energy sector’s scope beyond the conventional emphasis on solar energy. “We have to move beyond the concept that renewable energy means only ‘solar.’ You need to explore new ideas and options for investment in the renewable energy sector,” he said.
In addition, he emphasised the significance of discovering novel technologies for the creation of sustainable solar cells and suggested looking into out-of-the-ordinary possibilities, such as using tea garden locations for solar projects.
However, energy scarcity has significantly impacted the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector in Bangladesh. The RMG sector relies heavily on continuous energy supply for manufacturing processes.
As the adviser for road transport, bridges, and railways, he also called for initiatives to modernise and increase the capacity of solar energy systems.
