Following the imposition of tariffs on China, SHEIN and Temu have alerted their American customers to expect price increases starting next week.
According to the BBC, the e-commerce behemoths said that the “recent changes in global trade rules and tariffs” were to blame for their rising operational costs. They also stated that starting on 25th April, they would implement “price adjustments.”
It follows US President Donald Trump’s imposition of up to 145 per cent tariffs on Chinese imports. His government stated this week that the new tariffs might be increased to 245 per cent for certain Chinese items once they are combined to the current ones.
Additionally, Trump eliminated the de minimis tax regulations that exempted goods under $800, which had previously benefited Temu and SHEIN.
Customers were urged to shop by the online shops prior to the implementation of the higher costs. They said they were making every effort to minimise the impact on customers and maintain affordable rates. The group is putting a lot of effort into making shopping more enjoyable. Temu and SHEIN have also cut back on their US advertising expenditures.
Following the Trump tariffs, Currys CEO Alex Baldock issued a warning about the influx of Chinese goods into the UK and European markets through websites including Amazon, Temu, and SHEIN.
