Apco, based in Andhra Pradesh, and Co-Optex, based in Tamil Nadu, have inked a partnership agreement in a major step to promote handloom textiles.
This year, both organisations have set a sales goal of US $ 1.06 million (Rs. 9.20 crore). In the presence of Andhra Pradesh Minister S Savitha and Tamil Nadu Minister R Gandhi, the deal was formally signed during a buyer-seller meeting in Vijayawada.
Apco and Co-Optex inked a contract as part of this drive to increase the market share of Andhra Pradesh handloom textiles in Tamil Nadu. This would involve Apco and other corporate organisations selling TN handloom products. Co-Optex showrooms and other textile shops around Tamil Nadu will carry Andhra Pradesh handloom fabrics.
In order to improve the financial well-being of handloom workers, Savitha underlined the Andhra Pradesh Government’s continuous efforts to open up a wide market for handloom goods. In order to further strengthen the handloom industry, she said the state has already held a number of handloom expos and exhibitions at the state and national levels, offering training on contemporary designs and consumer preferences.
