Karnataka is prepared to implement a Textile and Garment Policy 2025-30 in an effort to become India’s textile and apparel hub.
Textiles Commissioner K Jyothi, who spoke at the Invest Karnataka 2025 GIM, referred to the government’s intention to execute the policy within a few months, promising further incentives for investors and opportunities for technical textiles. According to her, there will be two technical textile units soon.
“The policy is currently in draft form, as I have conducted several rounds of discussions with all stakeholders from the ground up, including at the taluk level. It will soon be rolled out before the start of the next financial year”, she mentioned.
Sanjay Arora, the PM Mitra Park’s transaction advisor, stated that the nation is examining the Chinese model and attempting to replicate the “sock city” of Datang, which is only focused on producing socks.
“One city employs 1.6 lakh people and produces 1.35 billion pairs of socks a year, with 80% of its workers being foreigners. Instead of copying it as a cut-and-paste model, we will try in our own approach,” he stated.
He noted that the Indian fashion industry has matured, with people now shopping seasonally rather than just during festivals. Individuals have also adopted the habit of changing outfits 3-5 times a day, and the textile industry is ready to capitalise on this trend.
He said in his presentation that by 2030, India might draw in US $ 100 billion in investments, of which Karnataka will also receive a portion. He noted that India’s domestic revenue, which was US $ 184 billion in 2024, would reach US $ 350 billion by 2030, and that its exports would rise from US $ 37 billion to US $ 100 billion.
