
The textile industry is one of 37 Chinese businesses that the Biden administration has added on its list of those prohibited from exporting to the United States because of alleged forced labour abuses in the Xinjiang province.
Huafu Fashion Co., a textile company, and twenty-five of its subsidiaries are among those listed.
Companies from the US and Europe have been under pressure to leave Xinjiang region firms that produce clothing and other goods. Alleged forced labour camps and other subpar working conditions involving the local Uyghur community have been recorded by labour groups. The Chinese government contests these assertions.
Guo Jiakun, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, described the law as “evil” and claimed that the companies’ bans amounted to meddling in domestic matters.
