Burberry has teamed up with resale platform Vestiaire Collective to offer customers the chance to trade in their pre-loved items.
Customers of Burberry can exchange their women’s handbags and outerwear for Burberry gift cards on the Burberry x Vestiaire Collective platform.
Customers can accept or reject the price that Vestiaire Collective provides for their gently used item. After accepting the price, the item must be mailed to Vestiaire Collective so that it can go through quality control and verification. A Burberry gift card will subsequently be given to the customer.
Vestiaire Collective will sell all of the pre-owned goods worldwide. Burberry has donated a number of women’s Heritage Trench Coats to the website in order to get things started.
The proceeds from the sale of these goods will be sent to the UK-based nonprofit organisation Smart Works, which helps unemployed women in need by giving them professional interview attire and coaching. Since 2013, Burberry has collaborated with the nonprofit.
“We are very excited to team up with Vestiaire Collective to provide another way for our customers to give new life to their Burberry pieces,” said Burberry Chief Digital, Customer and Innovation Officer Giorgio Belloni.
Vestiaire Collective, a resale platform, started out as a peer-to-peer business but has since developed to include formal resale programmes in partnership with companies. The network is supported by a number of companies, including Kering, and it has official resale agreements with well-known brands including Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and luxury multibrand marketplace Mytheresa.
