
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan has called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support the growth and development of Bangladesh’s RMG industry.
He emphasised the industry’s vital role in the country’s economic development and global trade during a recent meeting with a delegation from the IMF led by IMF Mission Chief for Bangladesh Rahul Anand at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, in capital Dhaka.
During the meeting, discussions were held focussing on various aspects of Bangladesh’s readymade garments industry, including its current status, the global trade situation, and its impact on the country’s export performance.
The meeting also addressed the challenges and prospects for the RMG sector, as well as the issues related to Bangladesh’s graduation from the LDC status and its potential impact on the economy and trade.
Faruque shared insights into the Sustainability Strategic Vision 2030, which aims to promote the sustainable growth of the RMG industry and highlighted Bangladesh’s efforts in environmental sustainability, such as recycling and circular economy practices.
He also mentioned the industry’s focus on diversifying its product range, embracing innovations and technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency, and investing in skills development to meet the demand for a skilled workforce.
The industry is also exploring opportunities in emerging markets to drive sustainable growth.
