Faruque Hassan, the president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has urged graduates to equip themselves with knowledge and skills that align with the changing demands of global markets.
He emphasised that in today’s era of modern technology and artificial intelligence, new job opportunities are emerging throughout the country that require the right expertise to meet market demands.
By doing so, graduates can tap into their potential and contribute to both personal growth and the prosperity of Bangladesh.
Faruque made these remarks as the chief guest at the ‘BUFT International Model United Nations 2023’ conference, organized by the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) recently.
The event was attended by Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor of BUFT, Md. Moniruzzaman, head of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC), Abdussattor Esoev, Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration – UN Migration, as well as faculty and students of the university.
Faruque emphasised that the visionary outlook and determination of youth will contribute to creating a better world in the future even as he urged them to acquire knowledge of innovative technologies, particularly in the context of combating climate change, which poses a significant threat to the planet and its inhabitants.
Recognising the youth as valuable assets to Bangladesh, Faruque noted that the apparel industry requires young talents who can contribute greatly to lead the industry towards sustainable goals.
He proudly mentioned that Bangladesh boasts the highest number of green garment factories in the world, with 203 factories already certified green by the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
He also highlighted the industry’s commitment to advancing sustainability and the circular economy, with graduates playing a crucial role in these efforts.
