American retail giant Nordstrom has, reportedly, announced its plans to lay off 222 workers at its distribution centre in Iowa.
As per a notice filed with the state, the layoffs will come on 18 October. However, Nordstrom hasn’t responded as yet on the same.
Here it is worth mentioning that the distribution centre is one of the two supply chain facilities that Nordstrom runs in Iowa, which together amounts to 1.5 million square feet of space.
The layoffs, as per media reports, have come as the retailer shifts some product volume to other facilities.
Meanwhile, Pete Nordstrom, President and Chief Brand Officer, Nordstrom, has said that Nordstrom has been working to improve the consistency and predictability of unit flow through its supply chain network – in addition to increasing the productivity in its distribution and fulfillment centres.
Some analysts said that 40 per cent of Nordstrom’s customers are on the West Coast, while many of its distribution centres historically were built in Iowa and Pennsylvania.
