
Expressing hopes the European Union (EU) will continue to support and co-operate with the Bangladesh readymade garment sector in the days to come, the apex garment makers’ body, the BGMEA, has thanked the EU for its recent move to do away with the 7.4 per cent import-share threshold from the GSP Plus vulnerability criteria.
As per media reports, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan at a reception organised by Bangladesh Ambassador to Belgium Mahbub Hassan Saleh in Brussels recently, to honour the BGMEA President, in which was present representatives of the Department of Trade and Employment of the EU, maintained the step to remove the 7.4 per cent import-share threshold from the GSP Plus vulnerability criteria will help Bangladesh to apply for GSP Plus benefits once it makes the transition from a least developed country.
The reception was also attended by other BGMEA leaders, namely Abdullah Hil Rakib and Miran Ali apart from Managing Director of Shasha Denims Shams Mahmud.
