
An apparel manufacturing powerhouse and the second largest manufacturer and exporter of apparels globally, Bangladesh produced in a year till November 2021, 1,000 tonnes of textile waste, as per a study, amounting to potentially a billion-dollar worth of recycled textile.
This was underlined by the study Circular Fashion Partnership by Global Fashion Agenda (GFA), which further added that the country (Bangladesh) is expected to produce an estimated 200 tonnes of textile waste per month by the end of this year, which it claimed to be a significant achievement in the context of the global pandemic.
The report, which also highlights actions needed to overcome the barriers to scaling systems, showcased a strong case for other markets including India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Turkey and Malaysia even as it claimed there is a US $ 4.5 billion worth of opportunity of recycling textile.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Director General of the Foreign Ministry’s wing for west Europe and EU, Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, reportedly, maintained that the Government will take the findings positively for further nourishment of the sector even as he underlined that there’s some challenges in incorporating the study suggestions in the country while also adding Bangladesh apparel sector has shown resilience even during the COVID-19 pandemic and is gaining momentum.
