
Close on heels of the recent fire incident at the BM Container Depot Limited at Sitakunda in Chittagong, Bangladesh garment makers are apprehending massive loss and supply chain disaster.
According to media reports, BICDA has put the estimated economic loss, on account of the fire, at over US $ 110 million.Many garment makers, especially Chittagong-based Santex Knitwears Ltd., are fearful of substantial losses.
As per reports, a consignment of Santex Knitwears Ltd., valued at US $ 3,50,000, including 29,000 pieces of jackets for export to America and Canada, was at the BM Container Depot, awaiting shipment.
Meanwhile, speaking to media, Vice-President of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association (BFFA), Khairul Alam Sujan, reportedly, said export consignments are protected under insurance and thus the garment exporters were likely to receive compensation in case of any damage.
However, the supplier, the buyer and the insurance company will have to negotiate a deal for the compensation, he further, reportedly, added.
