
ASEAN, an organisation that comprises of 10 South-East Asian countries, registered growth in its apparel exports to USA in H1 ’18. It exported readymade garments (RMG) worth US $ 10.15 billion to USA, marking 4.31 per cent boost on the yearly note.
Vietnam topped the list of ASEAN countries in its RMG exports to USA with shipment value of US $ 5.73 billion (up 6.19 per cent), while Indonesia clocked US $ 2.24 billion in its respective export. However, Indonesia fell on the yearly note by 2.80 per cent as shown in the data released by OTEXA.
Markedly, an emerging South-East Asian apparel manufacturing hub, Cambodia noted a significant change in value of its apparel exports to USA. Cambodia got a boost of 14.23 per cent on Y-o-Y basis and shipped US $ 1.12 billion worth of garments to USA during January to June period this year.
The next in line was Thailand with apparel shipment of US $ 427.47 million to USA. Thailand grew 6.87 per cent from its export figures in the same period prior year. Philippines, however, declined by 4.44 per cent to US $ 389.88 million figure from US $ 408 million in H1 ’17.
Further, Malaysia too fell notably by 7.40 per cent in its apparel shipment to USA during the review period. Malaysia could export just US $ 174.68 million worth of RMG as compared to US $ 188.65 million worth of shipment in the corresponding period last year.
On the other hand, Myanmar has been trying to increase its share in the US market lately. As a result, it grew by 38.22 per cent from last year to ship apparels worth US $ 64.21 million in January to June period of 2018.
Lastly, Laos’ share in the US market was not significant as compared to other ASEAN countries. It just exported US $ 4.21 million of apparels to USA without any change in value from what it had exported last year.
