As Japanese culture is increasingly influencing the fashion scenario, Opening Ceremony is injecting a double dose of Japanese style to its New York City store by unveiling a capsule collection that honours the beloved Harajuku cult street style magazine FRUiTS, which will be closing production after 20 years of capturing Japanese street style.
At the same time, the boutique will be hosting an exclusive pop-up of Australian vintage store Dot Comme, which specializes in pieces from Comme des Garcon’s archives from collectors located globally.

FRUiTS was founded in 1997 by photographer Shoichi Aoki and according to Opening Ceremony’s founder Humberto Leon, the magazine “is a true time capsule of Japanese street fashion”.
The pop-up cum installation, will pose as a rare opportunity for North American shoppers to get a glimpse of both Japanese street wear and avant-garde fashion. The FRUiTS collaboration will feature T-shirts and hoodies stamped with classic graphics from the magazine ranging from US $ 35-75. The boutique will also put up for sale 100 issues of the edgy Japanese magazine for as low as US $ 20.
The Dot Comme pop up will showcase pieces from Rei Kawakubo’s career at Comme des Garcons. Dot Comme’s founder Otto la Rosa has collaborated with Opening Ceremony to curate 250 rare pieces, which will be available for purchase between US $ 200 and US $ 1,000.
The Dot Comme installation will relocate to Opening Ceremony’s LA-based shop on May 25.
