Compared to the textile business, apparel exports from Gujarat is still at a very nascent stage, yet there are some companies which have committed focus on garmenting and they are expanding. Ahmedabad-based Globe Textiles (India), which has completed two decades of its establishment has recently invested more than Rs. 12 crore for a new facility at the Apparel Park in Khokhra (just 7 kilometres from Ahmedabad) where the floor space is about 50,000 square feet. As of now the unit has 2 lines of 150 stitching machines besides other equipments. This new unit has been designed beautifully to use natural resources and will save energy. “Currently our group capacity has gone up to 1,50,000 pieces per month, and in a phased manner we shall ramp it up first to 2,50,000 and later 4,00,000 pieces per month,” informs Bhavik Parikh, CEO of the company in conversation with Apparel Online.

The company is expecting significant growth in sales turnover as it has entered into new areas like home textiles and even the traditional product lines (denim, shirting and fancy fabric) and expect to post reasonable performance. Looking forward, the company is working on capacity optimization and consolidating business in uncharted territories. OEKOTex certified Globe Textiles (India) is involved in many CSR initiatives. In this new unit, more than 55 per cent of operators are women, and since the company runs a training centre, plenty of women from nearby communities enrol themselves for skill development.
