
The renowned Gateway of India in Mumbai hosted the first-ever fashion display by luxury fashion brand Vivienne Westwood in India, honouring the nation’s rich textile legacy.
Along with rare vintage pieces and a capsule collection made with hand-woven fabrics from India, the 166-foot runway showcased a variety of spring/summer 2025 Vivienne Westwood styles.
Fabrics such as chanderi silks, khadi cotton, wool, and silk were acquired from all around India by Khadi India and Madhya Pradesh-based Aaranya for the exclusive capsule collection.
Andreas Kronthaler, creative director at Vivienne Westwood, expressed gratitude for showcasing in India, highlighting the country’s rich history and culture. He admired the Khadi and Chanderi fabrics for their lightness, crisp texture, and opulent feel, emphasizing that they carry the essence of India’s heritage.
Carlo D’Amario, CEO of Vivienne Westwood, expressed pride in showcasing a collection that celebrates India’s rich textile heritage and traditional hand-woven industries. He highlighted the brand’s long-standing commitment to craftsmanship and heritage, now extending to partnerships with India’s artisanal textile industry for this show.
Bollywood stars, designers, industry influencers, and royal families from all over India attended the fashion event. The Department of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, and Vivz Fashion School collaborated to produce the exhibition.
