After leaving Halston, fashion designer Robert Rodriguez is back with a new line of sustainable, opulent eveningwear that aims to connect art and fashion.
Rodriguez, together with fashion illustrator Pepe Muoz and fashion engineer Geri Gerard, have created a set of seven canvas artworks titled ‘Threads’ for the debut autumn/winter 2023 collection in collaboration with New York-based creative expressionist Vicky Barranguet.
Barranguet was inspired by Rodriguez’s theme boards and general aesthetic; Rodriguez reworked her design in the collection’s patterns, foiling, shapes, and embellishments; and Muoz transferred Barranguet’s artwork to the dresses.
Kolston will also emphasise sustainability, with Rodriguez choosing to use only organic and approved fabrics. The cotton and voile utilised in the debut collection are obtained from Italy and weaved at a family-owned factory that complies with the highest European standards, employing nontoxic dyes and ethical production practices.
The silk in the collection was picked for its all-natural and biodegradable qualities, according to Rodriguez.
In order to reduce the brand’s carbon footprint, guarantee quicker lead times, and improve quality, Rodriguez also emphasises that environmentalism is more than just about fabrics. He is therefore opting to produce his collection locally in New York City.
