After four years since the closure of Marc by Marc Jacobs, the designer has announced a more affordable version of his brand, called the ‘The Marc Jacobs’ – named after his highly popular Instagram account @themarcjacobs
The new venture will offer everything from ready-to-wear and shoes, to bags, jewellery and accessory items, and will showcase different design language to that of the original Marc Jacobs, focusing more on individuality. As per a press release rolled out by Jacobs, “We wanted to do something that is unlike the collections we are already doing, in that is more ‘item-y. These items are things that you could put together in your own way; it’s more about personal styling than about having a full runway look.”
The designer also shared with WWD that he got his design inspiration from the hit garments featured in his grunge spring/summer 1993 Perry Ellis collection, which was also known as the reason that got him fired.
Collaborations with friends of the designer will also be highlighted in the new line, including a capsule collection of hats and headbands by milliner Stephen Jones along with a tie-up with screenwriter Sofia Coppola, New York Magazine and Peanuts.
A collection, called as m.archives, will flaunt reimagined pieces from Jacobs’ and his teammates’ personal wardrobes.
The Marc Jacobs is available to shop online now.
