Even in this hour of global recession, innovations and environment-consciousness seems to be the lingo of Brother, a leading sewing machine manufacturer. It has been 101 years since Brother started the manufacturing of sewing machines and ever since it has led the industry with new innovative technologies. It was the first company to integrate computers with sewing machine and have electronic controls. Today all its products have a green label and are devoid of any hazardous chemicals.
Toshiaki Yamada, Director Industrial Sewing Machine Division said, “The running cost of Brother sewing machine is largely reduced because of the use of direct drive electromagnetic motor which reduces up to 50% energy and has quick response. Moreover, since the M&S, a major retailer is in the process of developing green index, the industry having Brother machines will be the first to be M&S compliant.
With a view to target expanding domestic markets in India three new machines were launched in Delhi recently. Yoshinori Suzuki, General Manager, Industrial Sewing Machine Sales Department, said that they are targeting India’s growing domestic market.

Rakesh Vaid, Chairman of AEPC who was the Chief Guest for the occasion, welcomed the Japanese with open arms and urged them to start a manufacturing base in India. He offered his full support and said the Government will allow FDI and fiscal benefits if the company plans to establish a manufacturing unit.
The just launched S7200C is a single needle direct drive straight lockstitch machine with thread trimmer. It saves about 50% energy consumption from the V-belt driven system, ensuring low noise and vibration-free operation. The machine is compliant with the Restriction of Hazardous Subsstances (ROHS) and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive and has got a green label from the company in conformity with ISO 14021 and JIS Q14021. The arm jaw of the machine has been made slimmer thereby, easing the handling of the material around the needle area.
S-6200A is another new generation single needle lock stitch machine with built-in semi direct drive and a thread trimmer. The USP of the machine is that it is exceptionally responsive while sewing and increases sewing startup by 35% and saves energy consumption by 41% when compared to V-belt system.
“The above machines are capable of sewing a wide range of materials and provide for clean sewing without oil staining,” said Suzuki.
Randeep Sahani, AGM, Brother International (India) said “Increasing sewing startup by 35% in the new machine is a very critical component in increasing productivity because in an 8-hour shift, a normal worker starts and stops close to 4000 times. Individually the wastage in startup and stop time maybe trivial but the cumulative time wasted has huge impact on productivity of sewing operations.”
