In the wake of demonetisation, Union Textiles Minister of India, Smriti Irani has urged that each and every worker in the textile and apparel sector of the country should open his/her bank account on priority basis. Ministry of Textiles (MoT) is working aggressively in this direction as it helped opening 5 lakh bank accounts for associated workers in the industry in past three weeks. The Minister said this while addressing an event of Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) in New Delhi where awards for excellence in export performance in apparel sector (2015-16) were given to 21 Indian apparel exporters.
Awards were given in various categories like global exports above Rs. 500 crore. In this category, winners were Shahi Exports, Orient Craft and Gokaldas Exports Ltd. Awards in global exports above Rs. 100 crore and up to Rs. 500 crore category were given to Pearl Global Industries, Pratibha syntex and Silver Spark Apparel (Raymond Group of Companies).
The Minister congratulated the award winners and suggested that AEPC should have an award for the best player in the emerging market next season. She further said that industry should move towards sustainable garments from an international perspective and look for innovation in terms of marketing and technology. She also appreciated the apparel export industry for the serious implementation of Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
Ashok G Rajani, Chairman, AEPC requested the Minister to support the industry in the time of demonetisation. Also, he assured her that Indian apparel export industry will achieve the target of US $ 30 billion target by the year 2019.
At the event, Penguin Apparels, Jyoti Apparels, Loyal Textiles Mills were also awarded for exports above Rs. 50 crore and up to Rs. 100 crore. Million Exports also bagged the award for New Entrepreneur, while Lodha Exim got the award for highest exports to Japan. Eastman Exports Global Clothing, Paragon Apparel, E-land Fashion India, Peacock Apparels, Fashion Makers Group, Century Apparels, Eric Apparel, Trigger Apparels, Thirumurugan Tex, and M.S. Fashions Wear also got awards in various categories at the event.
Dr. A Sakthivel, Chairman, Poppys Group and veteran of Indian apparel export industry was also honoured at the event for his outstanding contribution to the industry.
