As Bangladesh continues to grapple with power and gas crisis, industries in the country, especially the export-oriented readymade garment sector are gripped by a sense of uncertainty due to the production disruption on account of the same.
This was claimed by media reports which citing data from Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) added the country’s apparel exports fell 7.52 per cent in September for the first time in 13 months even as experts and exporters predict a further decline due to production disruption.
Exporters have reportedly claimed production in many apparel units had dropped by at least 40 per cent after the gas and electricity supply situation deteriorated sharply in recent weeks even if speaking to the media, BGMEA Vice-President Md Shahidullah Azim reportedly stated, “We are worried over the gradual deterioration of the energy situation as most of the exporters are facing trouble producing the existing orders due to the shortage of electricity.”
