The US apparel imports have remained stagnant in the month of August which has historically been the month with the highest import values in a calendar year for the country.
The country imported apparel worth US $ 7.71 billion in August ’23, remaining unchanged from the previous month when it stood at US $ 7.70 billion.
However, on a yearly basis, the imports saw a fall of nearly 6.50 per cent as the import values were US $ 8.30 billion in August ’22.
Cumulatively in Jan.-Aug. ’23 period, apparel imports were still far behind from the last year’s values – all thanks to bleak demand in the United States.
In the first 8-month period of 2023, the USA’s apparel imports reached US $ 53.45 billion, down 22.77 per cent on a Y-o-Y basis.
Markedly, the volumes declined by 26.80 per cent to 16,497 million SMEs.
As a result of this downfall, all major Asian exporters to the USA experienced substantial double-digit declines both in volumes and values of their respective apparel shipments to the USA.
