Global leader in testing, inspection, audit, and certification, TUV SUD recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Garment Textile Embroidery and Knitting (AGTEK) of HCM City, Vietnam, aimed at improving the situation and reach of Vietnamese garment industry in the global market.
Sathish Kumar Somuraj, General Director, TUV SUD Vietnam informed that workshops and in-house training sessions will be conducted for the textile and garment industry under this MoU. The workshops are aimed to increase awareness levels about safety and quality as they would provide detailed understanding of the stringent quality and safety standards required by international buyers. “International government safety and quality regulations on textile and garment products are changing constantly, especially in today’s free trade business landscape. Global buyers, especially those in Europe and the US, are increasingly demanding with respect to the kind and quality of products they want,” informed Phạm Xuân Hồng, Chairman, AGTEK. While the free trade agreements with the EU, US, Japan, Korea, and ASEAN will help Vietnam gain global access, this MoU will help coping up with the stringent quality and safety levels, he added. Considering the small and medium scale enterprises of Vietnam, which hesitate in spending, the MoU also includes a special promotion for them.

TUV SUD is also planning expansion in Bangladesh, alongside developing human resource through adding local skilled people in the testing and certification business. The company also conducts performance and social audits as per the requirements of the sourcing companies. It added mobile van service to its portfolio, which enables TUV SUD experts to go to factories, inspect, and certify immediately rather than collecting samples and testing them in the laboratory later. A turnover of approximately US $ 2.2 billion was recorded from its 800 offices around the world, in 2015.
