A delegation from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by President Faruque Hassan, recently conducted a visit to the Geocycle project at LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Ltd’s (LHBL) Chhatak plant in Sunamganj.
The delegation, which included Vice President Miran Ali and Director Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan, had the opportunity to witness firsthand the exemplary practices in sustainable waste management, as per a media release issued.
The primary objective of this visit was to gain insights into sustainable waste management through the Geocycle project and explore how its innovative approach could be adapted and implemented within the readymade garment (RMG) industry.
During the visit, the BGMEA delegation displayed a strong interest in comprehending how creative and efficient solutions like the Geocycle project could contribute to environmental sustainability within Bangladesh’s garment and textile industry.
The LafargeHolcim Surma Plant, located in Chhatak, stands as a prominent cement manufacturing facility in Bangladesh.
The notable aspect of its Geocycle project lies in its capacity to dispose of a wide range of non-recyclable wastes by utilizing them in kilns and harnessing the resulting heat to produce cement.
The plant actively promotes recycling and responsible waste disposal, aligning with the principles of a circular economy.
BGMEA President Faruque Hassan highlighted the substantial progress achieved by the Bangladesh RMG industry in terms of environmental sustainability, emphasizing its commitment to the principles of a circular economy.
He further added that BGMEA is dedicated to promoting sustainability within the RMG industry and recognizes the importance of embracing innovative solutions like Geocycle.
