
Garment makers in Asia and Bangladesh, in general, are a worried lot as cotton prices continue to rise and adding to it are a hike in shipping cost and fuel price on the back of ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
Media reports maintained this adding due to drought in US’ Florida and excessive rain in India, production of cotton has depleted leading to its price to increase by as much as two times in some countries in the span of one year.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Vice-President of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) Md Fazlul Hoque, reportedly, maintained at present pound of cotton costs £1.65 to bring to Chittagong Port while adding yarn produced from this cotton will cost US $ 5.5 per kg.
“But now we are selling yarn at US $ 4.80,” reportedly, maintained Fazlul even as Managing Director at Fatullah Fashion Ltd., Fazlee Shamim Ehsan on his part, reportedly, underlined rising cotton prices, shipping costs and other costs have pushed production costs significantly.
“We are not getting the price from the buyers in accordance,” further added Ehsan.
