Though many exporters are talking about a slowdown, exporters from smaller hubs are doing well in this period when sentiments have still not picked up. Pushkar in Rajasthan is a small but emerging hub of garment exports, where almost a dozen exporters are catering to international buyers. Lila Shyam Exports is one of the biggest names of Pushkar, having almost 400 stitching machines, is planning to add 100 more machines in the next few months. Haresh Kumar of the company told Apparel Online, “We are doing exports to the US, Europe, Australia, South Africa and the existing buyers are giving enough orders to warrant more machines. We are also regularly participating in fairs for new buyers, so we plan to enhance our production capacity.”
The company is currently making approximately 5,000 pieces per day and after expansion, the product will increase to anywhere from 6,000 to 7,000 pieces. Though Haresh accepted that European market is down, he also claimed that their company has not seen much effect as their products are within the price range required and they work continuously on new designs to attract the buyers. Making skirts, dresses, trousers and bags, the company has a target of achieving a turnover of Rs. 25 crore in the next year, a 25% increase over this year.
