PM Sheikh Hasina urged the tapping of marine resources to help the Bangladesh industry and maintain good relations with neighbours.
“We have to explore the marine resources from the maritime areas we achieved. I believe the announcement of the blue economy will be implemented. We have to use the vast marine resources for the socio-economic development of Bangladesh” said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The premier said these things on 22nd February at a celebration held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) to commemorate the passing of the “The Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974” statute, which was passed 50 years ago.
She added, “We will have to be cautious in extracting our marine resources and in continuing business and trade using seaways maintaining our foreign policy ‘Friendship to all, malice to none.’”
She also exhorted foreign businesses to invest in order to investigate the oil and gas prospects in Bangladesh’s marine zones.
