
On his first visit to Nagaland, Prime Minister of Narendra Modi announced Government of India’s plans of setting up garment manufacturing unit for north eastern states. A modern apparel manufacturing centre will be set up in every State of North East India, beginning with Nagaland, Assam and Sikkim. “We know that we have a rich heritage in the field of textiles. We have mastery in weaving. Our women carry this art in their fingers, and we have to utilize this capability for the development of this area,” said Modi. The Central Government will spend Rs. 20 crore for this new programme.
